Mood, Trauma, Addiction

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used to support recovery from trauma for centuries. The body holds the evidence of what it has been through. Acupuncture and FSM work at the level of the nervous system, calming the sympathetic fight or flight response, activating the vagus nerve, and creating the conditions the body needs to begin processing and healing.

Kristi relies on diagnostic precision to differentiate which channel networks are involved in each patient’s presentation and tailors treatment accordingly. She believes in the body’s innate ability to restore itself. Her work in trauma and addiction recovery spans over twenty-five years, beginning with her clinical internship at the Portland Addictions Clinic in the 1990s.

Conditions Treated

Trauma Recovery

Kristi has helped patients recover from a range of traumatic experiences: abuse, PTSD, severe injuries, surgeries, and other forms of physical and emotional trauma. Treatment includes both general body acupuncture and auricular acupuncture, with five needles placed in each ear, to calm the sympathetic nervous system and create a felt sense of safety.

Ear acupuncture protocols for trauma are used widely around the world, including in the treatment of veterans with PTSD. Kristi has volunteered at the Solvang Veterans Hall on holidays and has also provided no-cost treatments at UCSB’s ROTC program.

FSM and trauma: Frequency Specific Microcurrent is particularly effective for the nervous system component of trauma. It helps shift the body from sympathetic overdrive into parasympathetic rest, facilitating what researchers call neuroception of safety, the nervous system’s subconscious recognition that the threat has passed and healing can begin. FSM is available to established patients.

Post-surgical Recovery

Acupuncture and FSM support recovery following surgery. Scar therapy is applied at the surgical site to speed local healing. General and auricular points address the effects of anesthesia, improve circulation, reduce pain, and promote detoxification. Herbal topicals increase blood flow. FSM accelerates cellular repair at the tissue level. Kristi has helped many patients recover from joint replacements, orthopedic procedures, and gynecological surgeries.

Addiction Recovery

Acupuncture has been used successfully in addiction recovery since the 1970s. Treatment is customized to each patient and includes auricular acupuncture to calm the nervous system and support detoxification in the lungs, liver, and kidneys. Acupuncture reduces cravings, minimizes withdrawal symptoms, lessens anxiety, and improves sleep. It is widely used in addiction rehabilitation programs across the country.

Kristi focused on addiction recovery during her clinical internship at the Portland Addictions Clinic in the 1990s.

Trauma and addiction recovery require a treatment approach that addresses the nervous system directly, not just the symptoms it produces. If you or someone you care about is navigating recovery, a conversation about what Traditional Chinese Medicine and FSM can offer is a reasonable place to begin.
